NHIF is completely voluntary and open for all Kenyans wishing to have an affordable insurance.
However, if you work for a government institution, you become an NHIF member by default such that your monthly charges are automatically deducted from your salary.
However, for retired of self-employed NHIF member, one of the most asked questions is how they can submit their monthly contributions to NHIF.
There are various options for sending money to NHIF which include “but not limited to” MPesa and Jambo Pay. Some mainstream backs can also be of great help to their customers since they facilitate sending the monthly premiums to NHIF.
Using Jambo pay
As a voluntary member of NHIF, you can easily access their services via www.jambopay.com or through their Jambo pay App. NHIF is among the companies that is listed in Jambo pay and by selecting it, you will be able to easily send your premiums.
NHIG Payment using Mpesa
This is the most popular way that people send use to send their premiums to NHIF. If you are new to the process, walk with me:
How do I Pay NHIF via Mpesa?
- Open your SIM Tool Kit and go to M-Pesa Menu
- Select pay bill and enter 200222 as the paybill/business number
- Enter your National ID as your account number
- Enter the amount you want to pay
- Input your M-Pesa Pin and confirm the transaction then send.
- You will get a confirmation message about your transaction confirming your contribution.
NB: this process applies to self-employed or retired people. If your salary is paid by the government, the money is automatically deducted. So you don’t have to worry about paying for insurance.
