The African states list

This means about a quarter of all the countries in the world, for what is the third largest continent after Asia and America (obviously if you consider North and South together) and the second largest in terms of population.

It is difficult, therefore, to talk about Africa and its countries in a generic way, also because diversity and variety are at home on the continent. And we are not just referring to differences in landscape as we move from north to south on the globe, but above all differences in culture and language. If we wanted to pull up a couple of figures, we would have to talk about more than 3 thousand ethnic groups with their own uses and customs and more than 2 thousand languages that differ! Among these, the most common and spoken is certainly Arabic, the first language of almost 200 million Africans, but concentrated mainly in North Africa.

Alphabetical list of African states

As mentioned, to-date, there are 54 internationally recognized African states, while those not recognized (or, at least, only in part) by the community of states include Western Sahara, which is part of Morocco, and Somaliland in Somalia.
