Requirements needed to register a partnership to get a paybill number

The documents to be presented in addition to the general ones listed above include:

  • A copy of partnership/affidavit or  deed
  • Recent utility bill
  • The partnerships KRA pin number or an individual’s KRA pin number
  • Copy of identification documents for the person’s opening the account.
  • A signed letter from the partners on a company letterhead clearly indicating:

Requirements to register Mpesa paybill number for an unlimited company

An unlimited liability company paybill registration further requires the following:

  1. A stamped copy of the certificate of incorporation
  2. KRA pin certificate ( for company and Directors)
  3. Original stamped /or company sealed Board Resolution on company letterhead signed by at least two directors within 30 days stating:
    •  Authority to open a paybill account or Transact business on behalf of the company.
    • Appointed persons having a signatory authority and provide copies of their identification documents.
    • Bank details.
    • Nominated Safaricom Number to initiate fund withdrawal of funds on behalf of the company(not mandatory)
  4. A copy of CR12 –WITH VALIDITY PERIOD OF 30 DAYS/or Annual Returns with filing receipt
  5. Business Photo/copy of a utility bill to confirm the existence of the Business.
  6. Copy of Identification Documents of Persons Opening the account i.e. Copy of the National ID/ Military Service Number (Passport/Alien Certificate for Foreign Nationals).
  7. Canceled cheque or letter from Bank confirming Bank details

d) Requirements to register an Mpesa paybill number for a Parastatal

As an addition to the requirements presented in the first segment, when registering a parastatal, be sure to meet the requirements below:

  1. Original Stamped board resolution on company letterhead signed by at least two directors within 14 days stating:
    • Authority to open a paybill account or Transact business on behalf of the company
    • Appointed persons having signatory authority d.Copies of their identification documents.
    • Bank details.
    • Nominated Safaricom Number to initiate fund withdrawal on behalf of the company(not mandatory).
  2. Copy of Identification Documents used by Signatory Directors ie ID/passport no.
  3. Canceled cheque or letter from Bank confirming Bank details

Requirements to register an Mpesa paybill number for Non-governmental institutions

  1. Copy of Certificate of Registration
  2. Signed Letter on letter head from the NGO Board confirming Registration
    and existence including officials.
  3. Original Stamped /or company seal board resolution on NGO letter head signed by at least two directors(Committee) within 30 days stating:
    • Authority to open a paybill account or Transact business on behalf of the NGO.
    • Appointed persons having signatory authority
    • Provide copies of their identification documents.
    • Bank details.
