Kenya National Music Festivals 2017

The 91st Edition of the Kenya National Music Festivals kicked off today at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST). Over 150,000 students are expected to perform in this years’ theme “Enhancing National Unity, Cohesion, and Integration”.

The event is to run for two weeks with learners from Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools, Middle level and Vocational Colleges and University students taking part in the festival.

The Kenya Music Festival provides an opportunity for the talented and gifted students to develop and showcase their talents on a national platform with 6 Schools competing for the Kenya Sign Language Group Verse for Hearing Impaired.

About Kenya National Music Festival

This year’s Music Festival began at the zonal, sub-county and county levels, followed by the
regional level from 4th- 17th June 2017. The national level competition of the 91st edition began today at the Masinde Muliro University, Kakamega.

As a co-curricular activity in the Ministry of Education calendar, the Kenya national music festival through the various genres of art enables students to interact, learn, practice and appreciate their tradition and culture and that of other communities

The Festival is a significant event in the school calendar. It provides a forum for mentoring and nurturing promising performers of music, dance, and articulation to showcase their talents and avail opportunities for career development.

CBK’s sponsorship of the Festival is to seek and to provide an opportunity for the youth to grow their financial competency and showcase their artistic talents through music and poetry.

The Central Bank of Kenya, through its partnership with the Ministry of Education, demonstrates the value it places on the nurturing and development of youth talent and the next crop of leaders.

Based on the theme “Promoting Financial Stability, A Sound National Payments System and a Vibrant Financial Sector”, the Central Bank of Kenya will be looking for an exemplary performance and display of talent in the creative choral verse compositions.
