Why Safety Matters When Purchasing a Family Car

What factors do you consider when looking for a new car for the family? Style, comfort, and price are likely at the top of your list.

However, did you consider safety? While today’s vehicles, in general, are a lot safer than they used to be, there continue to be thousands of deaths on the annual basis in Kenya

According to the NTSA, more than 94,000 accidents were the direct result of distracted driving.

And while this goes to show that you cannot control everything while behind the wheel, having a vehicle that is durable enough to withstand a crash can be the difference between life and death for you and your loved ones….

Now realizing the seriousness of selecting a family car from a local dealership, learning more about safety ratings makes sense.

Crash Test

Everyone has seen a commercial or two with a crash dummy inside of a vehicle. Such dummies are used in determining how well a vehicle will protect its occupants during impact from an accident.

NTSA– utilizing various technologies, this organization crashes vehicles in various positions including head-on into a wall, and from the side.

The main objective is to focus on safety features such as seat belts and airbags to see how they protect individuals during impact.

Focusing more on the structure of the vehicle, the IIHS performs different types of test. They create frontal car crashes to determine how well the vehicle will hold up in the event of an accident.

Car Safety Ratings

After the vehicles have been tested, they are then rated based on the overall findings. Consumer Reports issues safety ratings which include the crash test results, and the vehicles safety features that allow it to avoid accidents.

This information can then be utilized by automakers so that they can further improve their vehicles for driver safety.

Safety Features to Look For

When shopping for your next family vehicle in Kenya, there are various features you want to keep in the forefront of your mind.

The more features a vehicle has for preventing accidents or protecting occupants, the better it is for you and your family.

  • Airbags
  • Seat belt features
  • Anti-lock brakes
  • Traction control
  • Accident avoidance systems
  • Brake assist
  • Cruise control
  • Blindspot warnings
  • Lane departure warning
  • Pedestrian safety
  • Back-up cameras
  • Tire pressure monitors
  • Hands-free dialling
  • Navigational systems

These features can make driving your vehicle a lot safer. They decrease the potential of auto accidents and can work wonders for protecting those you care about most.

Reality Check: Safety features can most certainly help to prevent the likelihood of an accident; however, you cannot control everything happening on the road.

Should you find yourself involved in an auto accident that results in injuries or fatalities on Dallas, Kenyan roadways, you should immediately secure the services of a reputable car lawyer. This, of course, goes for all cities.

At the end of the day, buying a car with great ratings and safety features is the most proactive step you can take in preventing accidents, deaths, and injuries while on the road.

So before you purchase a car based on how cool it looks or because you got a great deal on it, remember to keep safety at the forefront of your mind.

  1. Great article. Indeed safety is paramount when considering acquisition of a car whether for official or family use. A car should be able to shield its occupants from every possible scenario on the roads. After all, we don’t really have control over everything that happens on the road.
