Egerton University Scholarship Application is currently open. Applications for scholarships are invited for the following programs in the categories outlined. The upper age limit for a Master’s Degree Programmes is 45 years and 50 years for Ph.D. programs.
Egerton University, headquartered at Njoro in Nakuru County, is a public chartered university with excellence in training, research and outreach in Agriculture, Natural Sciences, Engineering, and related fields.
The scholarship is offered by the Ministry of Education Science and Technology through the African Development Bank grant for the training of academic staff in Public Universities, Government line Ministries, Public Technical Institutions, and State Corporations for capacity building.
Application forms may be obtained from Egerton University Main Campus offices in Njoro or downloaded directly from the University website. Each scholarship covers Research-related costs and Tuition fees. the scholarship does not provide for stipend and personal upkeep.
Egerton University Scholarship: M.Sc. Food Science – 2 years
Program Goal
The main objective of this program is to prepare food scientists for careers in food, university teaching, and in the research industry. The goals are achieved through training students in the inter-disciplinary field of food science by enabling them to carry out research in the following areas of specialization related to food:
- Food Chemistry
- Dairy Technology.
- Food Biotechnology
- Food Processing
- and Food Microbiology.
Entry Requirement
Bachelor of Science in Dairy or Food Science and/or Technology or in a recognized of biological, chemical and Agricultural Sciences with at least second class Honors – upper division from a recognized institution.
Egerton University Scholarship: Ph.D. Food Science – 3 years
Program Goal
This Programme is designed to develop a highly knowledgeable and skilled Professional who can generate innovations and apply principles in cutting edge technologies in the food industry for the following areas including food microbiology, food chemistry, dairy technology, food engineering, food biotechnology, and human nutrition.
Entry Requirement
MSc degree in Food Science with thesis and with at least B grade or equivalent pass in the relevant subjects from Egerton University or any other university recognized by the Egerton University Senate. Applicants are required to submit a 4-page proposal concept acceptable to the department.
M.Sc. Courses In the following for a duration of 2 years

Program Goal
The program objectives are designed to provide candidates with quality training, teaching, research, product development, disseminating knowledge, and technology transfer in Soil Sciences, Horticulture, and Agronomy.
Candidates are trained in the interdisciplinary fields of
- Adaptation and mitigation to climate change
- Harnessing indigenous knowledge and technologies
- Crop production
- Soil and land resources management
- Breeding
- Post-harvest and value addition, and lastly
- Development of new high yielding crop varieties among other areas of interest.
Entry Requirement
A first-degree holder in General Agriculture and Soil Sciences or related disciplines with an Upper Second Class Honours and above or equivalent qualification from recognized Institutions.

Program Goal
The Ph.D. programs are designed to develop highly skilled professionals who can generate innovations and apply state-of-the-art technologies in the Agriculture sector including Agronomy, Horticulture and Soil Sciences.
The candidates are mentored to be professionals who can provide innovative and quality leadership in higher education teaching, research, disseminating knowledge, product development, and technology transfer, formulation of development policy, advisory and consultancy services.
Entry Requirements
MSc. Degree by thesis in soil science, agricultural sciences or related disciplines of Egerton University or any other institution of higher learning recognized by Egerton University Senate. Applicants must submit a Research Project Proposal acceptable to the Department.

- Agri-Enterprise Development
- Agricultural and Applied Economics
- Agribusiness Management
- Agricultural Economics.
Program Goal
The MSc programs are geared towards equipping candidates with knowledge and skills to transform the currently underdeveloped Agro-food sector and rural economies in sub-Saharan Africa so that they can perform well in an environmentally sustainable way.
The trained professionals are expected to address challenges in the local and global economies and in response to changes in technology and marketing systems, develop critical and analytical business skills unique to the food industry and gain knowledge and skills for efficient and effective utilization and management of scarce resources.

Common regulations for master’s degree from Egerton University and a BSc degree with upper second class honors from Egerton University or equivalent institutions for Agricultural Economics
For MSc in Agricultural and Applied Economics & Agri-entreprise development, graduates from any field and professionals in mid-career will be considered but they should have basic requirements for MSc degree course of Egerton University.
Ph.D. Courses in the following courses for a duration of 3 years
- Agricultural Economics.
- Agribusiness Management.
Program Objective
The Ph.D. programs are meant to produce highly skilled professionals focused on quantitatively-based economic research and analyses of natural resource and environmental issues, agricultural and policy questions, and develop strong conceptual skills to manage agribusinesses and solve production, marketing, financial, and personal problems in agricultural businesses.
The professionals will be educated to facilitate their pursuit of productive careers in business, academia, and government service.
Entry Requirements
Common regulations for the Doctorate degree of Egerton University. The candidates should hold MSc degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness management, economics, MBA (Thesis only) and related MSc degrees. Candidates must include a concept note of the proposed research project.

Program Objective
The programs are designed to provide a comprehensive and well-integrated program in
- Advanced animal nutrition practice
- Ecological, Biological, and socio-economic constraints and opportunities in livestock production and development, training and research.
- Animal breeding in designing and managing breeding improvement programs for various livestock species under various production systems
The candidates are trained to design and execute research to generate new information and technologies in animal production systems, animal nutrition, and breeding to make appropriate decisions based on sound scientific knowledge.

Common Regulations for Master’s Degree from Egerton University and holders of BSc degree with upper second class or equivalent grade in animal production, agriculture, range management, veterinary medicine, and any other degree relevant to the department from a recognized institution.
Egerton University Scholarship: Ph.D. in Animal Science – 3 Years
Program Goals
The program mentors candidates to be skilled professionals with capacity to provide innovative and quality leadership in areas such as research, formulation of development strategies, teaching and training, advisory and consultancy services in private and public livestock sectors

Common regulations for Doctorate Degree from Egerton University and holders of MSc degree with thesis and with at least B grade or equivalent pass in the relevant subjects from Egerton University or any other University recognized by Egerton University Senate.
