Pwani University, which was formerly known as Kilifi Institute of Agriculture, is strategically placed in the heart of the Coastal region of Kenya in Kilifi County. The University began in 1984 and was later upgraded to a Constituent College of Kenyatta University on August 23rd, 2007.

Pwani University was given a charter as a full-fledged University in March 2013. Pwani University, coupled with highly qualified staff members, has more than five schools in which it offers a diversity of degree programs in Health, Sciences, Education, Humanities, and Arts.
